My education in photography began over twenty years ago. I started with 35mm cameras, moved up to medium format and finally graduated to view cameras. In 1987 I accepted a studio assistant job, in the advertising department, of Meijer Inc., and in 1988, advanced to a full time photographer position. At first, everything was shot with 4x5 and 8x10 sheet film but Meijer was one of the first companies in the country to embrace the new technology of digital cameras. I had the opportunity to learn a great deal about commercial photography and digital imaging while working for Meijer and continued there for another thirteen years.

In April of 2000 I started my first commercial studio which was located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. Now, most of the time, I work out of a 600 sq. ft. studio at my home in Cedar Springs, MI. I've had some bigger, more upscale spaces, but by sacrificing a fashionable address, I can provide the same quality product for less. I usually do my own styling and retouching, and rarely use an assistant. Of course, if a client wants to be directly involved in a shoot, or has a favorite art director or stylist, I welcome them.

Quite often, while shooting, I communicate with clients and send images via email. It allows them the convenience of seeing the progress and contributing ideas without leaving their offices... a great benefit to out-of-town clients!

I've been a commercial photographer for over 20 years now and can't imagine doing anything else. I love the challenges that come with each new project.

Over the years, my client base has grown considerably and I've had the opportunity to meet and work with a wonderful group of people. I look forward to future growth, new faces, new ideas...
